There is this little girl in my coverage area who has a big heart and a lot of strength.
When she was 10, she was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare cancer that attacks bones and soft tissue. Almost a year after her first diagnosis, after surgeries, 'pokes,' hospital stays and chemo, her family thought they were in the clear.
Just two weeks ago, though, a routine CT scan found a nodule near her right lung that could very well be her cancer returning.
She has surgery to try to remove it all tomorrow (Friday) at the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.
One thing that has gotten her through everything so far is her love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, particularly player Troy Polamalu.
The other thing that gives her strength is her F.R.O.G. belief... Fully Rely on God, which her family made into bracelets (like the LiveStrong ones) that loved ones wear in solidarity.
You can watch a clip of her story that was on the Today Show this morning and you can read up on her progress here.
Please keep Heather in your thoughts.
If only we all had her strength. We complain about how hard our lives and our days are... but really, can we complain when there are people like her who have so much to lose and yet are willing to give so much more?
Her family is ordering hundreds of more bracelets... anyone want one?
